Overview
of "Bluegrass America"
Bluegrass America! is a
planned hour-long television documentary that will reveal the evolution of
a musical family from its roots deep in the mountains of
Kentucky to the stages, churches and concert halls of America.
The story
begins with great-grandparents Godfrey and Bessie Isaacs
of Floyd's Branch, Kentucky giving birth to seventeen
children and raising them in a small isolated mountain
home with no running water or electricity, then continues as their son Joe Isaacs leaves the mountains
to become a well-known bluegrass musician, songwriter, and
singer; then finally after thirty years, returns to his
homeland and his roots.
The
story unfolds further as Joe's own family becomes The
Isaacs,
one of America's most beloved gospel groups, and we are
presented with the amazing music that they write, sing and
play. Finally,
Joe's daughter Sonya Isaacs branches out on her own with a
blossoming career as one of country music's finest young
singers. The conclusion showcases Levi Bowman, Joe's
seven-year-old grandson, who continues to carry on the family musical
tradition.
