Ellen Bickford
Mary
Ellen Bickford Robertson was born in Napa, California in 1948.
Starting at a young
age, she involved herself in the community around her.
For five years, she volunteered at a three-county crisis
intervention center where she coordinated volunteers, raised
funds, trained, and performed crisis counseling. Later, she
organized an environmental committee for the Costa Mesa
Chamber of Commerce in Southern California. There she brought
together the local business community to research and learn
about environmental affairs. For the past thirteen years she
has volunteered as a public relations representative for the Friends
of the United Nations, assisting in the education
concerning the role of the United Nations in behalf of
children, the environment, and peace.
In
1980, Mary Ellen co-founded Rainbow Research, a non-profit
research and educational organization whose purpose was to
inform the public of the beneficial effects of music, light,
and color through events, seminars, and a newsletter that was
distributed worldwide. It was while she was with Rainbow
Research that her interest in the artistic use of television,
video, and motion pictures unfolded. Audio-Visual
presentations that she prepared for public presentations
brought audience members to tears. Mary Ellen learned how
effective visual and aural presentations, using today's media,
could be in helping an individual unfold spiritually, and this
became the focus of her life's work.
In
1986, she began working in the film industry. Her work with
IMAX producer Greg
MacGillivray included coordinating the filming of
Hands Across America and the Statue of Liberty Celebration in
1986. She was also Director of Environmental Education for the
IMAX film The Living Sea in 1995. The following year,
she co-produced a television special called "The
AquaNotes" for UNICEF’s
International Children’s Day of Broadcasting.
Mary Ellen has the combined talents of a writer, photographer,
and graphics artist. She published her first book of poems
entitled Eloquence, and is working on A book entitled
The Language of Light that describes her spiritual
journey.
Mary
Ellen and Don Robertson married on May 10, 1999.
In
addition to being the secretary of DoveSong.com,
Mary Ellen serves as an officer and board member for The Kids X-Pressions, Inc. This nonprofit educational corporation
provides an opportunity for the young at heart to express
themselves freely through worldwide communications networking.
The Kids X-Pressions is developing a television series, The
Kids-X-Press - an Interactive Television Show for Everyone,
and has produced a demo pilot Inside & Out that
features an interview with NASCAR champion Jeff
Gordon (her nephew).
In
2002, Mary Ellen Co-authored the book Songwriting
for Dummies.
Mary
Ellen always has a smile on her face and a magnetic heart.
Light and radiance shine through regardless of the situation.
She loves sewing, gardening, hiking, and keeping simple.
However, her simplicity doesn't stop her discussing topics
with scientists, politicians, and lawyers. Mary Ellen is
unique.
