The
DoveSong Website
is maintained by the Dovesong team along with
help from experts and people dedicated to the cause of great
music from around the world.
Maintenance
and enhancement of the website is an
ongoing project. Click on these three buttons that correspond
to the three main sections of the website to learn about what
is in store for the website:
In
a secular world in which so many people have become enamored
of music that no longer has a quality of beauty, music
that is based on anger, frustration and noise, music that is
no longer really music, but harsh words spoken to an
electronically generated beat, it is necessary to provide a
way for the people who are willing and ready to restore art
and culture to sublime ideals to have access to the goods. The
Internet and the World Wide Web entered the picture just when
it was needed most and has provided a means that was not there
before, a way provide information and substance for those
seeking a musical express that is beyond the low level set by
much of today's media.
For
this purpose the DoveSong website was founded in 1997.
DoveSong.com, comprising of three basic sections, first
developed Section One, the Text library, making available
information about the effects of music, how -- depending on
the music -- it could help create beneficial, healthful,
uplifting and inspiring effects in people, plants and animals,
and about music from the world's great cultures and
traditions, music that had almost been forgotten in today's
environments.
The
next section to be placed online was the MP3 Library. Using a
newly developed technology that was at that time causing a
stir because of its use in downloading current rock and roll
music, this library made available important recordings of
great music that were long out of print, recordings from 78s,
45s, and early LP records. The effect of making this music available
for the first time in many years caused a stir, and
the popularity of dovesong.com increased dramatically. An
important use of the internet had taken place. A rare, and
important collection of music was now available for those who
were either seeking it, or were ready to supplement or move beyond their
current musical tastes. One of the features of this library is
that it is cross-cultural. In the past, musical research has
been mostly confined to specific cultures or genres. The
DoveSong.com has taken the approach that the only thing
that matters is the greatness of the music itself, as measured
by its artistic, emotional, and spiritual qualities and the mastery
of the composers and performers. Great art IS measurable. We
cannot continue to classify all art together: a symphony by
Beethoven does not have the same artistic merit as someone
beating on a garbage can with a broom or sitting at a piano
for four minutes in complete silence, an neither does a canvas
smeared with house paint have the same value as the ceiling of
the Sistine Chapel.
